Identity Theft and your SSA Account

With identity theft on the rise, there are several things we can do to protect ourselves. The Social Security Administration has set up an opportunity for you to monitor your account and identity thieves are hard at work trying to set up a fraudulent account to gain access to your information. You can protect your account by navigating to ssa.gov and following the website directions to set up your account. The system will verify your identoty with a few questions from your credit history that you should only know. After you have set up your account with a secure password, they only person who will be able to access it is you. As a reminder passwords should never include your name, spouse’s name or children’s name or dates of birthdays or anniversaries.
